چکیده

Natural benthic substrates were collected beneath the ice of Grand Traverse Bay by divers on March I0, 1978 as part of a seasonal investigation of northern Lake Michigan benthic algae assemblages. Some of the samples from each selected depth between the surface and 32 m were examined using SEM. Natural substrates (silt, sand, pebbles, algae, shells) were field-fixed in glutaraldehyde, dehydrated, and critical point dried. Samples were sputter coated and examined with a Hitachi HHS-2R SEM operating at 20 kV.

Coastal Subsidence in Oregon, Usa, during the Giant Cascadia Earthquake of Ad 1700

Quantitative estimates of land-level change during the AD1700 giant Cascadia earthquake along the Oregon coastline are inferred from relative sea-level changes reconstructed from fossil foraminiferal assemblages preserved within the stratigraphic record. We apply a transfer functions based upon a regional training set of surface sediment samples from estuaries along the Oregon coast. The transf...

Seasonal dynamics of macroinfaunal key species inhabiting shallow soft - bottoms in the Bay of Blanes ( NW Mediterranean )

Within the frame of a wider research project on the littoral ecosystem of the Bay of Blanes (NW Mediterranean), the dynamics of shallow soft-bottom macroinfaunal assemblages of medium-to-fine-sand sediment communities of Spisula subtruncata have been followed since March 1992. These assemblages exhibited a very predictive annual cycle. Abundance and biomass rose sharply during spring, followed ...

The Application of the Land Transformation, Groundwater Flow and Solute Transport Models for Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay Watershed

INTRODUCTION Grand Traverse Bay and the Grand Traverse Bay Watershed (GTBW) are important natural and economic resources for Michigan and the Great Lakes Region, due to their great scenic beauty, quality of waters, and the recreational opportunities these afford. However, the watershed is currently undergoing some of the most rapid population growth and land-use change of any region in the Grea...

Fish Assemblages on Estuarine Artificial Reefs: Natural Rocky-Reef Mimics or Discrete Assemblages?

If the primary goal of artificial reef construction is the creation of additional reef habitat that is comparable to adjacent natural rocky-reef, then performance should be evaluated using simultaneous comparisons with adjacent natural habitats. Using baited remote underwater video (BRUV) fish assemblages on purpose-built estuarine artificial reefs and adjacent natural rocky-reef and sand-flat ...

Benthic macrofaunal assemblages of the San Francisco Estuary and Delta, USA.

The spatial and temporal distribution of macrobenthic assemblages in the San Francisco Estuary and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta were identified using hierarchical cluster analysis of 501 samples collected between 1994 and 2008. Five benthic assemblages were identified that were distributed primarily along the salinity gradient: (1) a polyhaline assemblage that inhabits the Central Bay, (2...
